Wayne Denton King, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Dec. 13, 1927, to George D. and Hazel A. (Brawner) King in Casper, Wyo.
He married Patricia Henderson Jan. 24, 1947, in Phillipsburg. She survives.
He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1945 and served as the senior class president.
The couple established Light & King Plumbing Co. in Liberal in 1953. He was a master plumber and electrician. In 1976, he and his sons established King Enterprises Inc. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served as a first class petty officer.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a layman for many years. He also was a life member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He was a past president and League of Honor member in Kiwanis for 25 years.
He was a golfer and instrumental in the creation of the current LLC golf course. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.
Other survivors include two sons, Rodney King and wife, Lesley, Liberal, and Tracy King and wife, Debbie, Liberal; one daughter, Janet Bird and husband, Roger, Kismet; one sister, Aileen Light, Los Angeles; four grandchildren, Becky Bird, Kismet, Andrew King and fiancée, Ashley Powers, Junction City, Ryan Bird and wife, Leigh, Sublette, and Kassi Westerman and husband, Tyler, Snyder, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Brayleigh McGinley, Kyler Bird, Ryan Westerman and Avery Bird; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents and one brother, Dean King.
o Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the First United Methodist Church.
Cremation has taken place.
A greeting time with the family will be take place from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Brenneman Funeral Home.
