PLAINS – Fern M. Schaffer, 94, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was born Nov. 4, 1917, to John and Dora Herman Marx on the family farm in Beaver County, Okla.
She married Casper (Cap) Schaffer Nov. 17, 1947, in Plains. He died Dec. 6, 1974.
She attended Pleasant Valley School in the Oklahoma Panhandle.
She was a cook at Plains Elementary School for 32 years, serving as head cook for 30 years.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed working in her garden.
She is survived by two sisters; Alma Griswold, Broomfield, Colo., and Clara Marcotte, Hockley, Texas; and many nephews and nieces.
She was also preceeded in death by four brothers, and three sisters.
o Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains.
Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Burial will follow at the Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, and from 6 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
