IVAN R. COX PLAINS – Ivan R. Cox, 79, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at his residence. He was born Oct. 3, 1929, to Paul and Lulu (Ratliff) Cox. He married Lora Hughan April 2, 1957, in Clayton, N.M. She survives. He was a 1948 graduate of Plains High School. He attended Dodge City Community College, receiving his associates degree. He worked in a meat market. He worked for Dunn’s Grocery Store after returning to Plains in 1958. In 1970, he worked for the State of Kansas as a meat inspector, retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed playing golf, visiting with friends and family, gambling, playing cards, hunting and fishing. Other survivors include three sons, Paul Cox, Plains, Jerry Cox, Plains and Terry Cox, Plains; one daughter in-law, Cathy Davidson and husband, Terry, Guymon, Okla.; two brothers, Dallas Cox, Jamesport, Mo., and Eldon Cox, Trenton, Mo.; one sister, Elsie Allison, Pheonix.; one half sister, Luwann Whittman, Bellsville Garden, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Amber Cox, Skip Cox, and wife, Desty, Ryan Cox, Linsey Carter and husband, Justin, Shane Cox, Shawn Cox and Shad Cox; and seven great-grandchildren, Darrick Doeschot, Taylon Doeschot, Remington Cox, Gunner Cox, Rylie Cox, Annie Cox and Zev Cox. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert “Bob” Cox; two brothers, James and Dale Cox; two sisters, Wanda Woltje and Wilma Wells; and one granddaughter, Terra Cox. o Memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Monday at the Southwestern Heights Auditorium with the Rev. Neal Foster presiding. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice and may be sent in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.
